Domestic power rates hiked by 20% in Delhi

Wednesday, 27 June 2012 00:05

From July 1, the Delhiites will have to give extra for their energy bill since the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) Tuesday made the decision to raise the average power price for residences by 20.87 percent.

This is the 4th rise in household electrical energy prices in earlier 10 months since August 2011, once it was raised by 21.77 percent.

“While the average power tariff (domestic) has been increased by 20.87 %, power will be more expensive by 19.49 percent for industrial usage,” DERC chairman P.D. Sudhakar explained here.

Angry Delhi citizens protest in opposition to the increase and caled for the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for presumably shielding the benefits of the discoms at the cost of users.
