IBN7 News: The world’s oldest meteorite crater - a huge influence area over 100 kilometres vast - has been discovered in Greenland, researchers state.
Scientists believe it had been created 3 bn yrs back by a meteorite 30 kilometres wide, that, if it strike Earth at this time, will remove out all greater life, the Christian Science Monitor documented.
The crater was “discovered” by scientist Adam Garde as he pored over maps displaying nickel and platinum abundance in West Greenland.
Garde, a senior researcher with the Geological Study of Denmark and Greenland, observed a both very simple and excessive description for a number of strange geological characteristics in this area: an effect from a meteorite that might have comprised useful metals.
A research group following up on Garde’s groundwork gathered samples in 2011 that support his theory, and the outcomes were released in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters, the Monitor reported.
