Hamilton has vowed to make a strong comeback in Malaysia after letting victory slip at the opening round in Melbourne.

The 27-year-old achieved pole position to set himself up for the shortest route to victory only to be beaten by race winner Jenson Button and Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel, The Mirror reports.

“I don’t like going backwards in my career. I went back two spaces in Melbourne. I want to make sure in the next race I am going forwards,” Hamilton said

“I know this is a car I can definitely challenge for the title with. As for me, I definitely do feel as though I’ve got it in myself to go for the title,” he added.

Boss Martin Whitmarsh said he would be disappointed if Hamilton was relaxed at letting a potential win slip from his grasp.
