At a meet of ministry authorities and IIT  Panel here Wednesday, ministry was convinced to conduct a new 2-stage entry examination formula suggested by the IITs.The seminar was visited by directors of all IITs.

The New Proposal
According to the proposed  format, a “main” test for the top 20 % marks holders of all boards, after this a final “advanced” examination, under the IITs direction, for the top 150,000 rankers. The proposed formula wiil be implemented  from 2013, if approved by the ministry.

“But our hope that no modification should be enforced on IIT system until 2014. Additionally limiting the qualifications to JEE (Main) to top 20%  of school boards, we believe, is pro-rich and will be damaging to the passions of high school students from non-urban India,” he mentioned
