Before a meet of the 4 Left parties today, sources revealed to press that Pranab Mukherjee has talked to CPI(M) Secretary Prakash Karat and looked for his support. The Prime Minister had additionally talked to Mr Karat on June fifteen, the day when UPA named Mr Mukherjee as its PM candidate.
Top leaders of Left parties are going to meet in New Delhi on Thursday in order to decide which candidate they will support in the presidential elections.
Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury and S Ramachandran Pillai (CPI-M), A B Bardhan, Sudhakar Reddy and D Raja (CPI), Debabrata Biswas and G Deverajan (Forward Bloc) and T J Chandrachoodan (RSP) will be present at the meet.
Prior to the conference of Left parties close to 4 pm, the CPI-M Politburo may meet in the morning
The Left parties, that holds for 4.7% of the ballots, keeping a suspense on the issue of support to the UPA candidate, telling they were not limited to support the rulling party candidate.
