BJP has decided to support the ex -Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma as a president.
The Bhartiya Janta Party Thursday announced that it would not back the UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee because UPA did not talk with the opposition in advance.
“We got 2 candidates now, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (former president) and Sangma. As Kalamji made a decision not to participate as a presidential candidate, so the 2nd one was Sangma. All of us decided P.A. Sangma is the appropriate candidate, so BJP supports P.A. Sangma as its presidential candidate,” announced party leader Sushma Swaraj at a press conference.
Sushma Swaraj told the NDA, led by the Bhartiya Janta Party, could not appear at opinion on presidential candidate as the Janata Dal (United) and the Shiv Sena could not determine their nominee.
“BJP made the decision that if UPA desired a consensus nominee, they need to have talked with us, as consensus has a pre-requisite like Atal Bihari Vajpayee followed when A.P.J. Abdul Kalam had been selected as a consensus candidate,” Swaraj mentioned.
