The remake of TV classic ‘Dallas’ has proved a smash hit in the US, as nearly seven million tuned in for its debut episode on Wednesday.

The show looks set to generate similar interest when it debuts on Channel 5 this autumn.

The drama reunites stars Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray as lead characters JR, Bobby and Sue Ellen Ewing, the Daily Express reported.

Meanwhile a new, even more daring and scheming generation of Ewings includes former ‘Desperate Housewives’ actor Jesse Metcalfe and singer-turned actor Josh Henderson.

“[Dallas] is a rare example of an artistically – well, entertainingly, at least — successful TV classic update,” Entertainment Weekly said.
